Building Healthier Communities
Through Our CenTeam

Centene’s uniquely local approach is the driving force behind our mission to transform the health of the communities we serve, one person at a time.

Our employees, members and partners are the heart of Centene, and our success in providing access to high-quality healthcare depends upon the trust we build with them. By working together as One CenTeam, we fuel innovation and enhance performance for everyone – our members, employees, and communities alike.

Our commitment to ensuring our workforce reflects a broad array of perspectives and experiences has resulted in recognition by leading organizations, including Fair360 naming us a 2024 Top 50 Company for Diversity and Newsweek listing us as one of America's Greatest Workplaces for Diversity in 2024.

We are proud that our workforce reflects the spectrum of our members’ circumstances, geographies and experiences.

Our Culture

Our long-held commitment to supporting low-income and underserved populations for which access to care has historically been a challenge is captured in our mission to transform the health of the communities we serve, one person at a time.

The CenTeam demonstrates our mission through a common set of values and behaviors. These provide the framework by which we work together to achieve our goals and deliver on our commitments to those we serve. In the words of CEO Sarah London, “Living our behaviors and bringing our values to life by demonstrating them every day in every corner of the company – is our collective call to action.”

Our Values

Five pillars of One CenTeam: Accountability, Courage, Curiosity, Trust, Service

These are the fundamental principles that guide our actions as a business.

Our Behaviors

These are the actions we must take to live up to our values and achieve our mission:

  • We do what’s right, not what’s easy
  • We go above and beyond for our customers and each other
  • We listen and ask questions to create shared understanding
  • We break down silos and bring each other to the table to find solutions
  • We have candid, courageous conversations, with care
  • We lead with authenticity and vulnerability
  • We try new things and learn from failure and success
  • We measure our success in the trust we build
  • We celebrate winning together

As we look to the future and strengthen our delivery of culturally competent care, we will continue nurturing a workplace that supports and empowers all team members to be heard, respected, and appreciated.

Our Commitment to Workplace Opportunity and Inclusion

We are committed to cultivating a workplace that provides access to opportunity and a great experience for all who join the CenTeam.

Creating Access & Belonging For All

Centene’s commitments to our people and culture are vital to our ability to serve our customers and improve access to health care for low-income and medically complex populations.

Employee networks are a central component of our One CenTeam culture, with more than 26,000 of our team members participating across the networks.

Annual Inclusive Leadership & Community Impact Summit

Centene’s Annual Inclusive Leadership & Community Impact Summit connects leaders from across the company to learn more about business priorities and seek ways to further access, belonging, opportunity and community impact within their respective organizations including a focus on how best to serve our members and their communities.

Observance of History and Heritage Months

Centene employees have opportunities throughout the year to participate in History and Heritage Month observances, including Black History Month, Women’s History Month, AAPI Heritage Month and National Disability Employment Awareness Month. These observances are recognized through programs within Centene’s employee networks , enterprise-wide communications and resource guides focused on furthering competency in serving the healthcare needs of our members.

Economic Impact & Robust Supplier Pools

We leverage sustainable procurement practices and robust supplier pools open to all to enhance our local economic impact. With a goal of spending $1 billion annually with the best performing small, local-based and diverse vendors and contractors by 2026, we aim to become more invested in the communities we serve.

Promoting a Culture of Allyship

Our facilitator-led Authentic Allyship events explore the spectrum of lived experiences of our employees and communities. Centene hosts a series of panel discussions that includes topics such as whole-health management, mental health and the impact of social drivers of health on the communities we serve.

National Employer Recognition

We take pride in our teams' consistent recognition for elevating all employees across our organization, culture and communities. This is an important factor in imbedding ourselves in the urban and rural communities we serve.

For the fifth consecutive year, Centene was named a Top 50 Company for Diversity by Fair360. We've also been recognized on Newsweek's America's Best Workplaces for Women and Newsweek's America's Greatest Workplaces for Diversity 2024.
